I was thinking today about how much I love the Bible Project app (and I think I may have referenced it in almost every post I’ve written!), and I thought I would share why.
It’s available on Android and Apple, it has some amazing resources, and is FREE!!!
The videos are available on YouTube too (some are linked in this post!), so why the app? Well, there are loads more resources on the app than on YouTube (see below), and if there is a series, the app remembers where you got to. Personally, I also find I get less distracted by looking at other videos (most satisfying machines and tools, anyone?).

This app is fantastic for anyone wanting to know more about God and the Bible, at any level, from complete beginner to Bible scholar. My daughter Bee, who is 6 years old, loves watching the videos, and I have used them at Sunday school to explain concepts like “sin” (there are three words for sin!!!).
Top features:
1. Overviews of the Books of the Bible
This is one of my favourite resources.
Every single book of the Bible has a really short and clear but super comprehensive overview of the main points. This is incredibly helpful for understanding what it means and the point it is trying to make. For example, we were recently reading Judges and getting very confused as to what the point was of all increasingly crazy stories. Watching the video of Judges (link to youtube verson here) helped us to understand that the writer of Judges is establishing that the Israelites are becoming like the other nations in the land, and setting the scene for the King to come.
2. Weekly playlist
This year, the weekly playlist is working through the Sermon on the Mount (which I am trying to learn!). Each week there are a few resources to watch, listen to or read. It only takes around 5-10 minutes each week, and is a great way to learn some new things about God even if you don’t have much time (although this doesn’t really explain why I am several weeks behind!).
3. Search feature
The app has a search function (“explore”) where you can enter a word (e.g. “sin” or “righteousness”) and it brings up a whole load of resources to explore!
4. Podcasts
As I discussed in this post, I am loving the Sermon on The Mount series. I am getting so much value out of the in depth discussions into each verse and each word in the text! The podcasts are very light and conversational, and yet delve deeply into the words of Jesus. Totally geeking out!
5. Classroom
This is where things get really deep! Bible scholars presenting classes on different topics/parts of the Bible. I have only spent a little time looking into the Jonah class, but I was totally blown away. This is an incredible resource for Bible teachers, translators and writers! 😉
I am so grateful to the Bible Project for these resources. They are freely available across the world, which makes me so happy as it can work towards addressing the global disparity in access to high quality Bible teaching.
There are other features I haven’t started to play with yet – like the skill studies which appears to be for learning skills to read and interpret the Bible better!
Please comment if there are other features to discover, and let me know what you think of the app! I hope you enjoy discovering these fantastic resources!
