Dear Summer Me,
Hi, this is you from the future.
You’re going through a really tough time right now. Sometimes it is a blessing we cannot see into the future. If you had known at the start of the year that this was going to happen, you would have panicked.
It has been hard to keep going. It feels like it will never end. It feels like God is not answering your prayers, and that maybe he doesn’t even care.
He does, though. And it will be over, and things will get better. And you will look back and know that God has had you in his training ground. It has been hard. You have felt helpless. But step by step you tried to put your trust in Him. You have kept going. You have not given up. You have kept handing your fears over, again and again and again. I’m not sure that bit will ever end, but I think we’re getting better at it.
I still don’t know how things are going to end. But I know that there is a firm foundation that will not budge in the middle of the toughest storms.
I haven’t seen the end, but I am hopeful of a ‘harvest of righteousness’ one day.
God loves you.
I am proud of you.
From,
Future you.
Psalm 121
A song of ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains –
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip –
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you –
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm –
he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and for evermore.
