Welcome to my Book Nook! I’ll share a few of the books I’ve enjoyed and recommend. I will try to review some of them as I go along. I haven’t included links to book stores as I tend to buy from a range of sellers, especially second hand where I can.
Let me know any suggestions for other good reads in the comments!
Books for Children

“Tales that tell the Truth” Series
These books from The Good Book Company tell old truths in new ways! With fantastic illustrations from Catalina Echeverri. I particularly love The God Contest.

Stories Jesus Told
Nick Butterworth and Mike Inkpen’s retellings of Jesus’ parables is fabulous! Easy to understand for little ones and brings a new perspective for adults reading!

A Princess Prayer
This is a sweet little story by Sheri Rose Shepherd, which introduces young girls to the idea that they are God’s chosen daughters, which makes them real life princesses!

Sophie and the Heidelberg Cat
Sophie has run off feeling guilty for all the naughty things she has done, and the neighbour’s cat introduces her to grace! “Hope comes from him, not from you.”

You are Special
Max Lucado’s story about the Wemmicks – little wooden people who go around judging each other as good or bad, and what their maker has to say about that! Great for children and adults.

For older children…
My family and I really enjoyed Katy Morgan’s retellings of the Christmas story and of Saul and David! A fresh, biblical perspective on well-known stories.
Books for Adults

Word for Word Bible Comics
As it says in the title, these are Bible Comics which do not omit a SINGLE WORD of the Bible text. They are extensively researched and well thought out. Really helpful, especially for visual learners.

The Practice of the Presence of God
This little book (pdf version free online) is a collection of conversations and letters capturing the joy experienced by Brother Lawrence by practing a conscious awareness of the presence of God.

How to Pray and God on Mute
How to Pray is a really practical, clear and insightful discussion on prayer. God on Mute sensitively and supportively expands on the topic of unanswered prayer. In itself an answer to prayer for all who cry out “Why?!”.

Essential Christianity
J.D. Greear clearly and concisely explains the gospel by following the book of Romans. This is the clearest exposition of the gospel I have read since “Mere Christianity”.

Anything by CS Lewis
I couldn’t possibly choose one book. I love CS Lewis’ clear and logical arguments, and his passion for God! I also love his fantasy books, especially the Space Trilogy.

Every Good Endeavour
Tim Keller writes about work and how it is not only a gift from God, but an essential part of our worship! No more dreading the 9 to 5: God made us to work and we can delight in it!
